This was my first time on the Gulf Coast. We went from Panama City Beach to Biloxi. The first thing that made me gasp was the color of the water. I had hoped the photos turned out better, but the color is there,,, you have to see it in person to really know how amazing it is. Flowers everywhere. Typical Florida beach rentals in every color imaginable. A beautiful Hotel. Tapering down for my half marathon, which is next Sunday. I did win a race this week, but strangely that wasn't the highlight. The best part of the week was Tuesday's workout. Not because there was anything special about it, but because it was routine. This spring I've been running my workouts based on feel, making sure to keep the effort controlled and restrained, even though it meant I was being continually dropped. And. More than just a header! Every event I do has help from volunteers, and in the case of Trans Iowa, sometimes from folks that love the event. They want to play a part, but are not looking for any kind of return in the public eye.
Just knowing that they helped gives them satisfaction. This next story is concerning an individual that fits this description. While I cannot reveal the identity of this person, I can tell you what this person is doing for Trans Iowa. It's a pretty cool gesture, in my opinion, and I think folks will really appreciate this. Especially if you are like me, and get a kick out of stickers. It should be exactly as you see here, or pretty darn close. If ya know what I mean. So, the mileage was left off. The calender may still say Spring, but it's Summer out here! Saturday I only had a short window of opportunity to ride, so I didn't get a longer ride like I wanted to, but I did get to ride, so that was something, at least. I need to be getting used to the heat of the day since Odin's Revenge looms on the calendar and I've got a long ways to go to be ready for that one, I feel anyway. I was sporting my German cycling cap given to me by Gerald. Roads were variable, but things started out on gravel with a bang. New crushed rock all across the roadway for the first several miles of gravel I rode. My friend Ari, who himself is a passionate gravel road rider, Trans Iowa Veteran, and soul leader of the "Slender Fungus Cycling Association", has posted on his blog some awesome gravel road riding etiquette thoughts and pointers. I hope Ari doesn't mind, but here are his bullet points. To visit Haworth, especially in the dead of winter, is to be engulfed in a dark cloud of brooding Brontëmania. For young Yuki Chan, loosely and embarrassingly attached to a tottering band of awestruck Japanese elders, it is almost too much. The Brontë Society is curating a big exhibition and hosting a conference, with Germaine Greer as a speaker. Despite their limited educational and social opportunities and their relative poverty, the sisters each produced a masterpiece - novels of great intensity, passion and power. Photo by Edward Sheriff Curtis of Nez Perce Dugout Canoe A couple of summers ago Allen Pinkham Jr. was here at the Josephy Center teaching workshops. He did a few days of beading and a few making drums with a handful of people interested in the crafts and the Nez Perce Indians who had developed them. At the end of his stay, Allen told me that “We Nez Perce were canoe people you know. ” That conversation sent me on a journey that landed enough grant funds to bring Allen back—in fact, he’s due in tonight with his father and with Bob Chenoweth from the Nez Perce National Historical Park in Spalding, Idaho. Bob’s made a study of historic Nez Perce canoes— there are only a handful in existence, and the park has four of them—and will do a program based on his research. Allen Sr. will chip in with stories of canoes and Nez Perce traditions. Without stealing any of their thunder, I’ll say that that initial conversation with Allen and subsequent talks, reading, and thinking have me looking at regional history in different ways. Holy shit! That's one cool hill climber!Cheap Thrill Much more cool stuff on Chopper Addict. Quiet, Sunflowers Germinating!Four years ago, a piece of land was for sale in Greenfield about three miles from our farm. It was “river bottom land” which means that it is really good soil, according to The Farmer. He has always farmed hill land with lots of rocks and marginal soils including clay and shale. He always envied the valley farmer’s deep, rich soil.
I must admit, I wasn’t too thrilled about adding to our debt load, but the land seemed fairly priced and you only live once. And they aren't making anymore land, as far as I know. I agreed, signed the paper and made him promise to grow me some sunflowers. For three years, he has kept the promise. I didn’t think about the work it would entail, obviously. Here’s a picture of the field as it looks now. It sprang up overnight and died overnight. And should I not have concern for the great city of Nineveh, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left - and also many animals".
Observation: God had place a fast growing plant to give Jonah shade in the heat of the day.God destroyed the same plant he had grow up and Jonah got mad.
He wished he had never been born.He was also upset because Nineveh had repented before the Lord and he didn't feel they deserved it. When did you buy your first Filofax and what was it? I purchased my first Filofax just over a month ago. All the birds from Friday must have kept going overnight because this morning was noticeable for the absence of Wheatears after probably hundreds of them made landfall in the North West yesterday. I couldn’t find any Wheatears at Lane Ends or Fluke Hall this morning, and no sign of yesterday’s Ring Ouzel either. There was a chilly old start, a Great-spotted Woodpecker greeting the dawn with a series of drumrolls just as the sun peeped through the mist and cloud. Morning Mist - Pilling The highlight of this morning was the mass of Meadow Pipits on the move - again.
Looking in the usual place for Wheatears I found just Meadow Pipits instead, and any pipits on the deck weren’t for staying off passage long before they joined in the stream of birding heading east and inland towards the hills.Pied Wagtail At Fluke Hall I watched the Kestrels in their post-dawn pair bonding, all noise and action - mating within sight of their nest box home too.
